Students Gear Up For 10th Annual Science Fair |
|
Students and their science teachers are gearing up for the 10th Annual Darul Arqam North Science Fair. The two day-long competition is held annually on the campus of Darul Arqam North. Students ranging in grades 3rd thru 8th are issued contestant numbers and placed in either junior (3rd-5th grades) or senior (6th-8th grades) levels of competition. As judges appear before them, students formally present their science projects and answer questions that judges may ask. Trophies are awarded to eight students--- 1st place through 4th place junior level and 1st through 4th place senior level.
The Ibn Sina Achievement Award is given to the student who achieved the highest score on the judge's forms amongst the finalists. In addition to a certificate of this honor, the student's name is engraved on the Ibn Sina plaque that displays the engraved names of previous recipients and hangs prominently on the wall of the school's administration office. Students and Parents can download the Science Fair Packet here.

Jobs & Careers: Students Today, Professionals Tomorrow! |
|
|
Work! Work! Work! is the title of the unit that first grade students are currently studying in their Social Studies class. Students are very excited to learn about different jobs that people have in our community. "We are also discussing whether the jobs that people have provide goods and services", explained teacher Ms. Sadia Yousufi.
The class recently had a guest speaker who came to speak to students about his profession.
Dr. Wadiwala was gracious enough to take time out from his busy schedule to speak to the first graders about his job as a General Surgeon. He spoke to the students about how his success is all from the will of Allah and comes from being a good Muslim son/daughter, student and citizen. The students were very excited about sharing their experiences and thoughts about being a doctor.
To expand on the topic, first graders dressed up to portray different jobs that people have in the community. The students did an excellent job taking interest in the project and presenting in front of the class. Click here for slide show.

Darul Arqam North on Par With Texas "Exemplary" Schools |
|
According to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Commissioner's Final Decisions for Standard Procedures for 2009 and Beyond and in accordance with the Texas Accountability System, student achievement levels at Darul Arqam North Campus rank it amongst public schools that earn the "Exemplary School" distinction.
Campuses that qualify for the TEA's highest standards rating, must have a student body (grades 3-11th) in which 90% or greater are meeting the academic standard of proficiency in each of the Reading/ELA, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Writing categories of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS).
Congratulations to Darul Arqam students and their teachers who continue to strive for academic excellence.
